What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

The tornado touched down near the intersection of US-11 and CR-135, just east of downtown Eutaw. From there, it moved northeastward, crossing CR-12, CR-131, AL-14, CR-170, and ultimately Interstate 20 near mile marker 43. The tornado lifted before reaching CR-167. One home was destroyed, four homes received major damage, and at least twenty more received at least minor damage. Several hundred trees were either snapped off or blown down along the path.

The wider storm

An intense upper level disturbance and associated surface cold front helped produce locally heavy rain and isolated severe weather, including two tornadoes, across central Alabama.

Began near Eutaw (32.8316, -87.9191).
