Event narrative
A very impressive hail storm occurred in and around Sanford early in the morning on the 14th. A supercell thunderstorm dumped large amounts of mainly small hail that piled up to several feet in spots where water had washed the hail into piles. Many cars at a dealership were damaged. A few stones were as big as ping pong balls.
Wider weather episode
A strong upper level low pressure system moved toward Maine from the west during the early morning hours on the 14th. Strong to severe thunderstorms developed early in the morning and moved eastward affecting the southern portion of the state throughout the day. York County was impacted by a Supercell Storm which brought large damaging hail and localized areas of intense wind damage.
