A very unstable air mass developed as temperatures rose into the lower 90s and surface dewpoints eclipsed 70 degrees. CAPE values increased to over 3000 J/kg while shear was near 50 knots. A mesoscale convective complex over lower Michigan in the morning maintained is strength across Ontario. With strong southwesterly flow up Lake Erie ahead of it, it maintained its strength as it moved east of Lake Erie, while weakening to the north. Considerable wind reports were received on Lake Erie as well as across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes.
