Event narrative

A thunderstorm moved across Winkler County and produced wind damage about two miles north of Kermit. A powerline pole was snapped which left streets on the north side of Kermit without power. Several trees were uprooted and there was damage to roofing material and metal awnings. The cost of damage is a very rough estimate.

Wider weather episode

An upper level trough was over eastern Utah and it brought upper lift to West Texas. Plentiful moisture was in place across the area as well as instability. A significant cold front was moving through West Texas. These conditions resulted in thunderstorms developing near the mountain areas of New Mexico and West Texas. These storms moved east and the storm outflow winds merged with the cold front coming from the north over Winkler County. This collision of boundaries resulted in wind damage across northern portions of Kermit.
