A strong storm system moved across the region, bringing significant early season snowfall to much of the area. The heaviest snow fell in several areas, including one band across portions of Perkins, Ziebach, and Haakon Counties, another across the northern Black Hills and adjacent foothills, and also across parts of far southern South Dakota. Snowfall in these areas were mostly in the five to ten inch range, with locally higher amounts across the northern Black Hills. Elsewhere, three to seven inches of snow were reported. Unseasonably cold air was also in place, especially behind the system, with record or near record temperatures across the area.
