Event narrative
Widespread tropical storm force winds in association with Hurricane Laura, which was passing along the south coast of Cuba and later turning northwest across western Cuba while at tropical storm intensity, occurred in the Straits of Florida offshore the Lower Florida Keys. Peak sustained winds were measured at 45 knots (52 mph) with gusts to 50 knots (58 mph) at the new Sand Key Light C-MAN station.
