An upper-level trough located north of the an area and abundant moisture combined with local and diurnal effects to generate afternoon showers and thunderstorms across the northwestern quadrant of Puerto Rico. Very heavy rainfall occurred, particularly in the urban areas of Arecibo, where accumulations in excess of 3-4 inches were observed.
