Strong southwesterly winds developed in the late afternoon and evening across the northern Black Hills area ahead of an approaching cold front. Wind gusts to 70 mph were noted, with a few higher gusts in the Spearfish area. Some trees and power lines were downed, especially in the Spearfish area and the northern Black Hills.
