Event narrative

The Palmetto State Chasers group reported significant coastal flooding around Edisto Island. Salt water was surrounding several businesses on the back side of Edisto Beach and several roads were flooded and closed across Edisto Beach. Also, several homes were surrounded by flood waters.

Wider weather episode

Major coastal flooding impacted portions of the southeast South Carolina coast as astronomical high tides were elevated due to the perigee and a new moon cycle. Tides were driven higher due to the presence of favorable onshore winds as the region was under the influence of strong high pressure to the north and northeast.
