2020-10-23 · near Olcott, Niagara River To Hamlin Beach Ny, Lake Ontario
Wider weather episode
A strong cold front approached the area subsequent to record heat across western New York. A pre-frontal trough ignited thunderstorms upstream from lower Michigan through northern Ohio. Thunderstorms overall diminished as they moved toward the area late in the evening. Though not impressive in terms of reflectivity and lightning produced, an isolated cell moving toward shore near Buffalo and produced a 62 mph wind gust. Stronger environmental winds from the large scale were likely funneled down the lake and brought to the surface due to the weak convection. An additional later report of some damage at a marina came from the Lake Ontario shoreline as convection moved farther inland in Wilson.
