Strengthening high pressure over central California resulted in areas of dense fog reforming during the evening of December 19, and by the morning of December 20 widespread dense fog was present across the San Joaquin Valley reducing visibility to a few hundred feet over a large area. The fog persisted across much of the valley through midday on December 20 then lifted into a stratus deck during the early afternoon.
