A strong storm system brought heavy snow to parts of Southwest Virginia. The storm began with rain during the early morning hours of 12/24. In the afternoon, cold air rapidly swept into the area, changing rain to snow. Moderate to heavy snow fell for about 3-4 hours that evening, resulting in several inches of accumulation. Most of Southwest Virginia reported between 2 and 6 inches of snow. Scattered to numerous snow showers continued into Christmas Day, with only light additional accumulations.
