A potent winter storm affected the region on the 25th and 26th, bringing heavy snow to both the higher terrain and parts of the plains in southern Colorado. A brief period of freezing drizzle did occur prior to this snow, with a period of heavy snow then occurring. The highest amounts were observed across the southwest mountains with this event. Additionally, a much colder air mass provided well below normal temperatures across the region.
