Event narrative
Eight inches of snow fell in the White Sage area about 10 miles northwest of Jacob Lake at an elevation around 6,000 feet. A foot of snow fell in Jacobs Lake at about 7,800 feet elevation.
Wider weather episode
A secondary trough of low pressure moved across northern Arizona with cold air already in place. A strong southwest flow brought moisture from the Pacific Ocean that produced heavy snowfall over the higher terrain.
