Between 6 and 8 inches of snow was reported at Carver's Gap.

An upper level low pressure trough moved across the Southern Appalachians in the evening of January 27, producing a few inches of snow. Following the trough passage later that night, a northwest flow of cold air produced an additional few inches of snow in portions of the East Tennessee mountains.
