Strong high pressure centered over the Desert Southwest led to excessive heat warning conditions and multiple heat-associated fatalities across the Phoenix metro during the middle part of August. Eight fatalities (7 direct and 1 indirect) were reported by the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.
