AWOS station KMDJ 48 SE Leeville measured a peak wind gust of 44 mph or 38 knots from passing thunderstorms.

In late January 6th 2021, a deep upper-level trough aided in the development of a strengthening surface low pressure center and associated cold front over Texas. This system approached the northern Gulf coast from the west as a line of strong to severe thunderstorms with severe wind gusts impacted the northern Gulf waters throughout the early morning hours on January 7th.
