Winter Storm — Western Middlesex, Massachusetts
2021-02-01 to 2021-02-02 · Western Middlesex, Massachusetts
Event narrative
Snowfall amounts generally ranged from 14 to 18 inches. The highest report was 22.1 in Acton. A coastal front created a sharp gradient from the coast to inland areas. This gave snowfall totals near 10 inches in the southern part of the county. Around midnight winds gusted to 35 to 40 mph. At 1151 pm the ASOS at Bedford Airport (KBED) reported a gust to 38 mph.
Wider weather episode
A mid level trough over the Appalachians produced a secondary surface low pressure near the mid-Atlantic coast. High pressure over Hudson Bay allowed low level cold air to stay in place initially. Most of the region received 8 to 12 inches of snow, but a coastal front kept accumulations down in southeast and extreme eastern Massachusetts. This storm also produced strong winds and minor coastal flooding.
