Four inches of snow was measured 10 miles west southwest of Valentine.
Wider weather episode
A deep upper level low dug into the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico. Cold air ahead of the low caused rain showers to change to snow that quickly accumulated and remained on the ground for over a day. Snow fell across much of the area with the heaviest amounts from the Big Bend into the eastern Permian Basin.
