Event narrative

The entire zone remained in Exceptional(D4) drought through the month of January, even though the Buckhorn Cooperative Observer reported 1.19 inches of precipitation which was 0.03 inches above normal.

Wider weather episode

Most of southern New Mexico had another month of below normal precipitation in January. All areas except along the border in Luna County, where Exceptional(D4) drought expanded, remained the same as December.
