Event narrative

A maximum snowfall amount reported was 9.2 inches at Gila Hot Springs. Another report from 6 miles northeast of Cliff was 6.3 inches.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper trough was moving through the Desert Southwest with a 130 knot jet streak associated with it. Cold air was already in place behind a system which moved through a couple days earlier. The Gila and Sacramento Mountains received up to 10 inches of snow with the highest totals just outside of Silver City.
