Heavy snow began to fall in the North Cascades during the early morning hours of January 2 and continued to fall before tapering around sunrise on January 3. NWAC snowfall observations indicate new snowfall amounts of around 20-25 inches near the Mount Baker Ski Area within this event.

Wider weather episode

Several weather systems moved across Western Washington at the beginning of the new year, bringing with them widespread lowland rain, heavy mountain snow, and gusty winds to the area.
