Event narrative
A couple hundredths to two-tenths of inch of ice from freezing rain was reported across the county, mainly in trees, elevated surfaces and in grassy areas. However, a few care accidents were reported.
Wider weather episode
Warm moist air surge into the area atop a shallow cold air damming airmass. This result in some light freezing rain falling across the northern Piedmont of central North Carolina during the morning of the 31st. This resulted in a few slick spots, though ice accrual was generally less than 0.15 inches, and mainly on elevated surfaces and trees which resulted in little to no impact. However, a few car accidents were reported near the Virginia-North Carolina border.
