Wider weather episode
Behind a departing storm system, a cold and moist northwest flow of air crossed the relatively warm waters of Lake Ontario. This brought heavy lake effect snow from the evening of the 19th through the evening of the 20th to portions of the Finger Lakes region, especially Onondaga and southern Cayuga counties. During the afternoon of the 20th, a lake effect band broke off and developed into a snow squall, causing multiple accidents and cars to drive off the road on Interstate 81 near Tully, NY.
