Very light low-level flow amidst a shortwave moving over the Great Lakes lead to lake effect snow enhanced by mesoscale features, resulting in heavy snowfall across parts of the area near the Lake Michigan shoreline. Snowfall totals over 12 were experienced in several areas, including two storm total reports of 17.5 in Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties.
