Four and a half inches of snow was estimated to have fallen in Stanton.

At the surface, a bitterly cold air mass dropped into Texas and eastern New Mexico. Aloft an upper level low pressure system moved into northern Mexico and ultimately east into Texas. Snowfall was recorded across much of West Texas and eastern New Mexico with accumulations up to one half foot or more.
