A 71 year old male from Minnesota had been swimming near Fort Pickens when he was pulled away by a strong rip current and subsequently drowned as a result.

Wider weather episode

Strong southerly flow over several days led to the development heavy surf and rip currents at area beaches. Two rip current fatalities occurred in Escambia County FL. On March 27th, a 71 year old from Minnesota died. On March 28th, a 62 year old male from Pensacola, FL died.
