Event narrative

Due to a persistent lack of rainfall across the area, Extreme (D3) Drought continued across much of Coastal Kenedy County. These conditions would remain unchanged through mid-April.

Wider weather episode

A lack of substantial rainfall continued to plague Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley in early April. Exceptional (D4) Drought continued in Zapata and western Starr, as well as portions of the northern ranchlands, while Extreme (D3) Drought continued across many other locations. Lesser drought was found mainly east of U.S. 77 in Cameron County, and in far eastern Willacy County.
