Two large trees were reported down along I-85 near mile marker 229.
Wider weather episode
A weak area of low pressure tracked east-northeast along a nearly stationary front over the northeast portion of central North Carolina during the evening. Widely scattered thunderstorms developed from Wake County north and east, where the best low level moisture existed at peak heating. A few storms along the front from South Hill, Virginia into the Kerr Lake, Lake Gaston, and Halifax areas exhibited weak rotation. In addition, large hail was reported in the storms over portions of the region with up to golf ball sized reported in Halifax County around sunset.
