Event narrative
Young woman succumbed to drowning injuries which occurred at Zoo Beach along the Racine lakefront, shortly after being pulled from the water. Onshore winds and waves may have caused longshore and structural currents along the beach and North Pier which may have contributed to the drowning. According to witnesses, the young woman was swimming in a shallow area and a underwater current carried her to deep water. Officials stated the young woman did not know how to swim.

A young woman succumbed to drowning injuries shortly after being pulled from the water at Zoo Beach along the Racine Wisconsin lakefront. Northeast onshore winds of 10 to 15 mph caused waves of 1 to 3 feet. The onshore winds and waves may have caused longshore and structural currents along the beach and North Pier which contributed to the young woman drowning.
