Event narrative
A severe long-lived thunderstorm produced strong damaging winds, knocking down numerous trees along a path from near St. Matthews, SE to the Cameron area and into Orangeburg Co. Locations of downed trees included Burke Rd, Belleville Rd and Moorer Rd, and along US Hwy 76 near Cameron. Times estimated.
Wider weather episode
An upper level shortwave combined with a surface cold front and moderate instability produced multicellular thunderstorm clusters in eastern SC which led to damaging winds and large hail. An NWS survey team concluded that a macroburst occurred in central and eastern Orangeburg County which lead to widespread downed trees and powerlines and included significant damage to Lake Marion High School in Santee, SC.
