A fire blackened about 1400 acres of dry brush in the Hamakua District on the Big Island of Hawaii, near Paauilo. The blaze forced the closure of Highway 19 between mile markers 34 and 36 for a time, but no residents needed to evacuate the area. The cause of the fire was not known.
