Event narrative

MDT Two Medicine Bridge station measured a 53 kt (61 mph) non-thunderstorm wind gust.

Wider weather episode

A Pacific trough and attendant cold front brought increased westerly flow aloft and just enough of a surface pressure gradient for strong surface winds along the Rocky Mountain Front and the immediate adjoining plains. H700 winds were not overly strong at around 40 to 45 kts, but were two to three standard deviations above what is normally expected for the middle of May.
