What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

An EF-1 tornado touched down just south of Yellow Bluff Road and moved north-northeast, damaging and snapping trees along its path. The tornado crossed Thornton-Tolarsville Road where heavy tree damage was noted, and one mobile home had some of the roof blown off. In this section is where the tornado peaked with an estimated intensity of 110 mph winds. The tornado continued over mostly wooded area and crossed Queenie M. Johnson Road where it weakened and narrowed before dissipating after crossing Howard Road.

The wider storm
