The eastern areas started in Exceptional(D4) drought with Extreme(D3) drought over the west. By the end of the month, only the far east was in Exceptional(D4) drought with Severe(D2) drought over the southwest.

Wider weather episode

A little improvement was noted across far eastern El Paso county and western Hudspeth county in May, but most areas remained in Severe(D2) to Exceptional(D4) drought.
