Event narrative

The Oconee County Emergency Manager reported numerous trees blown down in the Rays Church Road area between Highway 53 and Maxey Road. A GDOT sensor on Highway 78 recorded a wind gust of 61 MPH.

Wider weather episode

A moist and moderately unstable airmass over the state combined with a series of weak short waves sweeping across the region in the persistent southwesterly upper flow ahead of a deep trough over the central and southern plains to produce isolated strong to severe thunderstorms over north Georgia.
