Buoy located about 1 mile off northern Milwaukee County in Lake Michigan measured a wind gust of 50 knots as a line of severe thunderstorms moved across the nearshore waters.
Wider weather episode
During the early evening on August 10th, a line of severe thunderstorms crossed the shore and nearshore waters of Lake Michigan, producing a 10 to 30 minute period of wind gusts in excess of 34 knots. Peak wind gust reported was 55 knots at Kenosha lakeshore.
