Event narrative

The eastern half of the zone started in Exceptional(D4) drought with Extreme(D3) drought west. By the end of the month, the far east remained in Exceptional(D4) drought but improved to the west with the far southwest only in Abnormally Dry(D0) drought.

Wider weather episode

Areas of far southwest New Mexico continued to remain dry in June, but the Sacramento Mountains and parts of south-central New Mexico did receive above normal precipitation. There was some improvement to drought conditions in these areas with above normal rainfall.
