Event narrative

Ambient weather station at northern end of Beachdale Drive in Avon Lake recorded a peak gust of 52 mph. This convective gust followed the passage of a downshear gust front and preceded arrival of showers and thunderstorms from the west.

Wider weather episode

A surface low moved from northern Georgian Bay to southwestern Quebec during the early afternoon through early evening of the 15th, allowing the trailing cold front to sweep southeast from Lower Michigan toward Lake Erie. Ahead of the front, a broken squall line moved generally eastward over and near Lake Erie, and generated a couple gale-force peak gusts along the northern Ohio shore. These storms occurred in a warm sector comprised of moderate instability and effective bulk shear, respectively, and moderate to strong DCAPE.
