A peak wind gust of 65 MPH was measured by the automated weather station 4 miles west-northwest of Elk Springs.
Wider weather episode
A shortwave trough progressed across the region as subtropical moisture streamed in from the south. As a result, scattered showers and thunderstorms developed across western Colorado. Moderate instability produced some stronger thunderstorms that generated severe wind gusts.
