2021-08-01 to 2021-08-06 · Kohala, Hawaii
Wider weather episode
One of the largest brush fires in Hawaii County history, if not the largest, continued into August after starting in the morning hours of Friday, July 30th, in the South Kohala District along Mana Road near Parker Ranch land. The wind-swept blaze in leeward Big Island blackened more than 47,000 acres of mainly dry pastureland and grasses, though the fire forced the evacuation of Waikoloa Village for a time. The blaze also destroyed two homes in the area and about 100 head of cattle from Parker Ranch. The cost of damages was unavailable, and the cause of the blaze was unknown.
