The buoy 3 miles SSE of Sunset Beach recorded a peak gust of 48 mph, and sustained winds of 43 mph.

The wider storm

Tropical Storm Elsa made landfall in the panhandle of Florida, then moved northeastward into the Carolinas and weakened. The storm managed to produce tropical storm force gusts across portions of the coastal waters.
