Event narrative

The eastern half of the zone started out July in Exceptional(D4) drought and improved to Abnormally Dry(D0) conditions southwest. By the end of the month, the east improved to Extreme(D3) drought with no drought conditions noted over the southwest.

Wider weather episode

Near to above average rainfall helped to improve drought conditions over most of southern New Mexico, especially closer to the Texas border region and the Sacramento Mountains.
