To start the month of August, ongoing drought conditions started at (D3-Extreme) for all but the extreme northwest corner of Northern Phillips county which remained in (D2-Severe). These conditions remained the same through the end of August.

Wider weather episode

Even though a few beneficial storms passed through the region in August, it was not enough to alleviate ongoing extreme drought conditions that expanded into more locations throughout the month.
