Event narrative

Several trees and tree limbs were blown down by thunderstorm winds along Interstate 64 near the county line between Greenbrier and Summers Counties.

Wider weather episode

Without large scale forcing, pulse storms began forming in the afternoon once sufficient daytime heating was able to initiate convection. A highly unstable environment allowed some of these storms to form strong downdrafts and damaging winds. Orographic effects helped concentrate these storms in the mountains.
