Strong high pressure over the Desert Southwest led to a rapid warm-up with temperatures climbing above 100 degrees for the first time of 2020. Temperatures reaching Excessive Heat Warning conditions resulted in two heat-associated fatalities in the Phoenix area according to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.
