With the help of a weak wave overhead, severe storms initiated over northern Michigan during the afternoon amidst a very moist low-level atmosphere. A few clusters of storms eventually merged into a line, producing damaging wind gusts across various portions of the forecast area from Kalkaska county to Iosco county.
