Wider weather episode

A strong mid-level trough and weak surface cold front crossed the eastern Great Lakes Monday morning. A line of thunderstorms over southern Ontario moved across Lake Erie and eventually reached the western end of Lake Ontario around daybreak. It then moved down the length of Lake Ontario and into the eastern Lake Ontario region. Surface based instability was mainly confined close to the lake shores, which was an influence of the warm lake waters warming the boundary layer. This resulted in a few strong wind gusts along the shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario as the line passed.
