Event narrative
A wide waterspout was observed about 14 miles southwest of Key West. The condensation funnel cloud extended about halfway down from the cloud base and a spray ring was visible.
Wider weather episode
A large waterspout developed in association with a convective rain shower southwest of Key West. The Florida Keys were in a col region between low pressure over the Bahamas and the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Nicholas over the northwestern Gulf states, with a daily record precipitable water value of 2.52 inches observed earlier in the morning from the Key West radiosonde data.
