An intense upper level system moved from the central Rockies to the northern Plains, bringing heavy precipitation to the area. Temperatures were cold enough for mostly or all snow across the Black Hills. Snowfall amounts of one to two feet fell over the northern Black Hills, with lesser amounts across the rest of the Black Hills. Rain changed to snow over the higher elevations of Butte and Harding Counties, with as much as six to 12 inches in some areas.
